| Statement |
| I have always used a variety of materials in my work. However, in the last six years, since my affiliation with Pilchuck Glass school, I have become intrigued with glass and started incorporating glass into my work. The fragility of glass is countered by its strength to withstand the ravages of time. I find this division of characteristics reflected in our tenuous pathways. I am interested in the underlying interconnections between all things and the pathways connecting them. My work explores these pathways and the many ways in which they link the personal and natural worlds.
In my current work, I am using the bird form as a vessel to encase and entomb images and objects. This form evolved to symbolize paying attention to the subtle beauty and horror in life, both external and internal. These pieces evoke possibility and potential, as well as loss and decay. They are acting as reminders of our connection to the rhythms of the earth and how the forces of the natural world resonate within us all both literally and metaphorically. In creating personal reliquaries, I hope that the viewer will find their own connection.
