Statement

The sensorial world is of unending patterns, with containment being one such pattern,
whether appearing as our own metaphysically complex embodiment, or simply...a tea bowl...
My current exploration of form and containment in sculpture addresses the aspect of perimeter,
expressed as membrane, boundary, definition,
shelter or division...something that is
defended or celebrated...compiled or deconstructed.
Minimal...spontaneous.
A gestural use of clay,
capturing the essence of containment stripped bare to the bone…and reflecting
a palpable stance upon the perimeter of a separate sense of self.
Lace-like structural metal often interposes linear openness through the opaque plasticity and
mass of freestanding clay. The format of bas relief celebrates three dimensional expression on
the wall, coordinating occupied space with silent, open area. In mind, always, is the parallel between
our own sense of self and what form or containment actually is.
